Downtown by the Tracks - 6x6 Oil Painting

6"x6" oil painting on archival panel
SOLD

Sorry for the slight absence. My monitor decided to give out in the last week so I had to find a replacement. In the mean time I decided to paint some more houses in downtown New Bern by the railroad tracks. I can't imagine living so close to the tracks when those trains run by at five in the morning, but then again I live very close to a day care and some days those kids can give the trains a run for their money on the decibel scale.

Monopoly: Go Directly To Jail - 24x24 Oil Painting

24"x24" oil painting on stretched canvas
SOLD

Everything else you grow out of, but you never recover from childhood- Beryl Bainbridge

I'm not sure why I torture myself by picking a composition with so much TEXT, but there it is. I think this sort of thing would be much simpler on a smooth board versus a canvas, but I'm just too partial to canvas and I won't try to fight it. I've learned some things from this painting, and that includes the reminder that I should always mix MUCH more of that light green background color than I imagine I'll need. I didn't really get that until a few layers in.

My next one will be similar to this but in an 18x24 size, focusing on the same area of the board but with a slightly different setup. But that one might be awhile. I still have to recover from this one.

Dunes and the Clouds that Wander Over - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas on archival hardboard panel (Raymar panel)
SOLD

Without accepting the fact that everything changes, we cannot find perfect composure. But unfortunately, although it is true, it is difficult for us to accept it. Because we cannot accept the truth of transience, we suffer.- Shinichi Suzuki

Just Passing By - 6x8 Oil Painting

6"x8" oil painting on canvas on archival hardboard panel
SOLD

Nature is often hidden, sometimes overcome, seldom extinguished.- Francis Bacon, Sr.

I'm operating on low energy levels today, but did manage to finish this one and FINALLY finished the Monopoly painting (it will be listed as soon as the edges dry a bit, in a day or two). Hope everyone's having a good weekend so far.

Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality.
- Jules de Gaultier

I felt like winging it and mostly going from imagination for this painting.

Marsh Winter - 8x10 Oil Painting

8"x10" oil painting on canvas on archival hardboard panel (Raymar panel)
SOLD

Life may change, but it may fly not; Hope may vanish, but can die not; Truth be veiled, but still it burneth; Love repulsed, - but it returneth.- Percy Bysshe Shelley

I bought a pack of these 8x10 panels so I could start working a bit larger than just the small 5x7s and such I usually do. The great thing about 8x10s is that they can fit into a standard size picture frame, and I'm trying to be more friendly with the standard sizes so customers won't have to worry as much about custom framing.

Sunset Lake - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas on archival hardboard panel
SOLD

We think too small, like the frog at the bottom of the well. He thinks the sky is only as big as the top of the well. If he surfaced, he would have an entirely different view.
- Mao Tse-Tung

This is the first painting I've completed on my new panels. I don't know how it is for other artists, but I know that for me just getting fresh new materials and supplies can be a real motivation in being inspired to paint. I love shiny new things.

Sailing By - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

It's fear of the unknown. The unknown is what it is. And to be frightened of it is what sends everybody scurrying around chasing dreams, illusions, wars, peace, love, hate, all that--it's all illusion. Unknown is what it is. Accept that it's unknown and it's plain sailing. Everything is unknown--then you're ahead of the game. That's what it is. Right?- John Lennon

This one ends in four days at auction. The weather today has been so wonderful; it's like an early spring! I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Still Working!

I'm a little behind on things...still working on the bigger Monopoly painting, and I'm currently working on a few 8"x10" paintings on the new canvas panels I received in the mail today from RayMar Art. For the longest time I'd been hearing good things about their panels and thought it would be nice to finally make the switch-over. So since I don't have anything new to really share, here's a picture of some of my smaller paintings hanging out a few weeks ago before many of them were shipped to their new homes. I just love a gathering of small paintings.

Winter Dunes - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel

"Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams."
- Ashley Smith

More dunes! This time of a gray winter day at the beach. I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Evening at Ocracoke - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand instead of a million count half a dozen, and keep your accounts on your thumb-nail."
- Henry David Thoreau

Just a simple, late evening beach view from Ocracoke Island. I think I just like painting the blue cast to the sand at this time of day.

Harmony - 5x7 Oil Painting

5"x7" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

Keep your love of nature, for that is the true way to understand art more and more.
- Vincent van Gogh

It's been a hectic week, so I haven't gotten as much painting in as I wanted. I don't usually list on Fridays but since I missed yesterday, I wanted to post something. This will be a 5 day auction instead of my usual 7 day listing, so keep that in mind if you're bidding.

Purples and greens are one of my favorite all-time color combinations. Do you have a favorite color combo that you're always drawn to?

I was lucky enough this week to be the featured artist on EmptyEasel, which was quite an honor! You can check out the review here.

Dance of Blue and Green - 6x8 Oil Painting

Endless Marsh from the Outer Banks
6"x8" oil painting on canvas panel
SOLD

"Develop interest in life as you see it; in people, things, literature, music - the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself."
- Henry Miller
One of my favorite things about marsh scenes like this is the play between the blues and greens, the water and the land.

I'm finally working on two new larger still-life paintings of board games and, if all goes well, should have one posted within a week. It's been a while since I've done a non-landscape painting!

Marsh Evening - 24x24 Oil Painting

24"x24" oil painting on stretched canvas
SOLD

"Painting is an attempt to come to terms with life. There are as many solutions as there are human beings."
- George Tooker
I started this one about two weeks ago but just didn't get a chance to come back to it until now. I paint this scene a lot but find it paints itself differently every time.
